THE HALL ESTATE: CONTEMPORARY STATE

The Roerich House is nowadays being preserved as a Museum, consisting of two floors. Former living rooms of the Roerich family are on the upper floor – there are: drawing room in the centre, library that previously had a balcony, George and Svetoslav bedroom, Helena Roerich study room and Nicholas and Helena Roerich’s bedroom. These rooms are being kept intact as they were last time left by Svetoslav and Devika Rani Roerich who used to come to Naggar in the summer time till 1980ies.

Visitors can see inner arrangement of the rooms through the windows along the balcony constructed around the house for this very purpose.

Down floor consists of a large central room that was used as a dining room by the Roerichs and two smaller rooms; two side rooms – former studio of Nicholas Roerich and adjoining George Roerich office room were transformed into the Roerich Art Gallery where original paintings of both Nicholas and Svetoslav Roerich are permanently displayed.

Main entry verandah room that was previously used by Roerichs for growing some plants, was converted into the office of the Executive Director.

Adjoining the House, small display room has been constructed which houses a car that belonged to the Roerichs. Shining green color ‘Dodge’- manufactured in 1929, with original Punjab number plate and loud horn is one of the most popular items seen by the tourists. Previously it was in a very bad condition, but the Russian Embassy in Delhi kindly undertook difficult task on full reconstruction of the car – after that it was brought in a truck back to Naggar and forms a part of the overall exhibition.
