Starting from April, 6, 2003 , the IRMT established an Informal Roerich Art school with purpose of imparting art education to local children. There was no Art School available here before. Approximately 80 children enrolled immediately. They belong to several villages in the area from Kullu to Manali.
In 2004, the School became affiliated to well-known Pracheen Kala Kendra University , Chandigarh , as ‘ Helena Roerich Art College '.
Art College offers following courses to children:
— Indian classical music, both vocal and instrumental (Tanpura, Sitar, Tabla, Flute, Harmonium)
— Indian classical dance (Kathak)
— Painting
— Theatre art and Folk drama
Local artists from Naggar and Kullu are teaching here. Nowadays approximately 130 children regularly attend their classes. It is the only Art College available in this locality. Classes are held on Saturdays, Sundays and school holidays.
Art College offers BA certificate for students who successfully complete their course.
The IRMT is not only the organizer, main sponsor and patron of the Art College, but also actively involves students of the College in all functions that are organized by the Trust. Children always participate in all Trust holidays and celebrations, preparing wonderful programs and concerts, they greet high guests and artists, take part in the inauguration of regular exhibitions being held in the Trust.
Helena Roerich Art College is being actively helped by different world Roerich Societies – thus,
Togliatti Roerich Society ( Russia ) bought 34 beautiful books for the Children Library; Surgut Roerich Society ( Russia ) twice donated a lot of valuable painting material for students;
Members of the Roerich Society from Ukraine brought valuable painting material for students;
Guests from Australia sent books, tape, decorative scissors and brushes;
Mr P. Zakharov from Russia donated Electric Tanpura, Ragni digital for the musical department of the College;
Lithuanian Roerich Society generously donated funds for the Yamaha musical synthesizer;
Mr Daniil Shestakovsky, St.Petersburg, Russia, Syktyvkar Roerich Society, Russia, ‘Urusvati’ Roerich Society, Kiev, Ukraine and few other people contributed funds towards purchase of sound system that was gifted to the College on 12th February 2006 during the annual function, Helena Roerich Birth Anniversary.
