"LADAKH – THE LAND OF HIGH PASSES"

Photo Exhibition by Alexander Titov,
Moscow, Russia

Exhibition held from 09.08.2005 in the exhibition hall of the Urusvati building.

Alexander Titov from Russia has made his trip to Ladakh in august 2004, and during his journey he made a series of photographs of the austere beauty of this hilly kingdom.

From the author's story:
"The idea was to make a bike trip, starting from Manali and, after the 500km-long way through the Western Trans-Himalaya, to reach Ladakh, going along the famous Manali-Leh highway. The bike was a light 150cc Suzuki. The road was so extreme and challenging, with 3 highest points along - Rohtang-la, Baralacha-la and Thang-la, but the magnificent views of the Himalayas helped to remain on the way. Having stopped twice on the way - in Keylong and Pang, I reached the Indus valley in the middle of the third day.

Ladakh is a little jewel, surrounded by harsh glaciers and high passes. The treasures of Buddhism remain here in perfect state from the 7th-10th centuries AD, hiding ancient mysteries. We must say here, that the famous Roerichs' Central Asiatic expedition had passed through Ladakh in 1925, going from Kashmir to Sinkyang. One of my goals was to find and to capture the Ladakhi trails of this expedition. Also, among the exhibited photos there are the beautiful views of other historical sites and nature of Ladakh, that, in general, greatly impressed me".
