During the 9th October function dedicated to the birthday anniversary to Nicholas Roerich, another exhibition was inaugurated at the Urusvati Himalayan Research Institute building. Mr Alex Titov from Moscow brought to Naggar his photographs made during his trip to Altai mountains in Russia. He was enchanted by the beauty of the mountains, of the sacred Belukha Mountain which was very much loved by the Roerich family after they went through Altai region during their Central Asian expedition in 1926.
“It is strange and wondrous - everywhere the Altai is highly praised. It’s mountains are beautiful, cedars are mighty, rivers are swift, flowers unwitnessed…
But the secret of the Altai contained even something more, something that forced one to think of the ancient paths of peoples, of the centers of bygone cultures, of the awakening of the East and the rise of the approaching age - age of purity and justice…
The Katun is welcoming. The Blue Mountains are resonant. White is the Belukha. The flowers are vivid and the green grasses and cedars are calming. Who has said that the Altai is cruel and unapproachable? Whose heart has become fearful of the austere power and beauty?...”
Thus wrote Nicholas Roerich in his expedition travel diaries about Altai.
Alex Titov is also a passionate traveller. Several years ago he presented another photo exhibition at the Roerich Trust that showcased his works done during his trip to Ladakh. This time visitors admired solemn moods of Russian Altai mountainous region, its passes, lakes, rivers and glaciers, wild flowers sparkling in different colors and amazing play of the natural forces.
