It is for the second time that prestigious National Academy of Art, Lalit Kala Akademi, Delhi, had chosen the International Roerich Memorial Trust as the most suitable place to conduct its Regional Painters Camp 2011. First time, the National Painters Camp was successfully held at the IRMT in 2008.
This time, artists from Himachal Pradesh, New Delhi and Jammu participated at a week-long painting camp. They were:
Ms Megha Katyal, Sh. Anup Kumar Chand, and Ms Boishali Singh Masot from New Delhi; Sh. K.K.Gandhi from Jammu & Kashmir; Sh. Pawan Chauhan, Hamirpur, H.P.; Sh. Suresh Chaudhary, Kangra, H.P.; Sh. Vivek Sharma, Kullu, H.P.; Sh. Praveen Chander Sharma, Sh.Surjeet Singh and Ms Neha Sharma from Shimla, H.P.
Solemn inauguration of the camp was held on 13th March by the Deputy Commissioner, Kullu. All artists were greeted by the DC Kullu, Director IRMT and the Assistant Secretary of the Lalit Kala Akademi. They were also briefed about the history of the Roerichs who stayed at the Estate for over 20 years, and mainly about the art of Nicholas Roerich.
In a beautiful place, surrounded by fresh snow clad mountains, warmed by the spring sun, artists were working for one week, and on the 18th of March the exhibition of their works was inaugurated by Dr Sudhakar Sharma, Secretary of the Lalit Kala Akademi. Each artist presented one or two paintings executed by them during the camp.
After the exhibition, interesting cultural program was organized for the participants and guests of the Painting camp.
