EXHIBITION ON THE INDIAN-RUSSIAN RELATIONSHIPS,
22 April 2007

Exhibition dedicated to the 60th anniversary of Russian-Indian diplomatic relations

On 22 April, during the celebration of the 60th anniversary of Russian-Indian diplomatic relations, an exhibition was inaugurated depicting some aspects of the relationship between our countries. Few historical photos were exhibited – of Vijaya Lakshmi Pandit, first Ambassador of India to Russia, Mr Novikov – first Ambassador of Russia to India; connection between the Roerichs’ family and Nehru’s family, visit of Sh.J.Nehru with Indira Gandhi to the Roerich’s Hall Estate in 1942, and of course, illustrious couple of Svetoslav Roerich and Devika Rani, their meetings with high Indian officials and Russian President Mikhail Gorbachev in 1989.
Verily it can be said, that the Roerichs were first ambassadors of friendship, cultural and spiritual cooperation between our countries. Way back, in 1942, when second world war was raging, Jawaharlal Nehru and Roerich shared their vision and dreams for future cooperation in peaceful times. Unfortunately, Nicholas Roerich didn’t leave through to see their vision flourish. But his great visionary ideas are invariably living through in our days.

Here, in Naggar, the Trust carries on Roerichs’ ideas through its multiple cultural and spiritual activities which involve mainly youth of the Kullu valley.
