‘RETRO’ - EXHIBITION OF THE PAINTINGS DONATED BY THE ARTISTS FORMERLY HAVING THEIR SHOWS AT THE IRMT (11.07.2010 — 31.08.2010)

On 11th July, a new exhibition was inaugurated at the Modern Art Exhibition Hall of the Trust.  Exhibition titled ‘Retro’ includes over 70 paintings and driftwood items donated by the artists who previously had their shows at the Trust.  Starting from the end of 2002 till date, total 94 exhibitions were organized at the Trust.  These included painting, photo exhibitions, exhibition of wooden carvings and driftwood art pieces, as well as Medicinal herbs exhibition, Traditional Kullu Weaving art exhibition and exhibition from the  Trust’s  Archives (from botanical, medicinal, mineralogical, linguistic, zoological, ornithological collections, collected by Prof. Nicholas Roerich’s family).

Artists, both professional and self-taught are putting up their shows at the Trust throughout the year. Children artists’ exhibitions are also organized time to time, as well as the exhibition displaying the results of Helena Roerich Art College that is being run by the Trust.

Indian artists, displaying their art, headed from 7 states – from Himachal Pradesh, Karnataka, Kerala, Rajasthan, Punjab, Madhya Pradesh and West Bengal.

Foreign professional artists also often held their shows, and came from Russia, Austria, Germany, Lithuania, Slovakia, Ukraine, UK and USA.

The exhibition was solemnly inaugurated by the Lithuanian painter, Mr. Darius Tamkevichius, who is also the President of the Lithuanian Roerich association ‘Peace through Culture’, together with Sh.Kehar Singh, Pradhan of the Parents-Teachers Association of the Art College.

After the traditional lighting of Dipa lamp, all Lithuanian friends were welcomed in Himachali style, with Kullu caps and shawls. After that, Dr Julia Barkova, musician  from Russia performed several songs –  in Russian, Hindi and English languages. All students of the Art College and the guests enjoyed the ‘musical’ inauguration of the exhibition. 

Later, everybody went around the hall and carefully looked through the paintings which form  the permanent Trust’s exposition.
