PAINTINGS BY SUDARSHAN KUMAR, 30 April 2006

Today, on the last day of April, Sunday, 30th, students of Helena Roerich Art College were again very busy. Their day started with usual prayer sang together by all College children at the Theatre ground. Then children greeted guests from the Russian Embassy, New Delhi, and performed for them few items — classical ragas, folk songs of Kullu valley and patriotic song.

At the same time, teachers announced, that new valuable music instruments were donated to the College by one Russian young man. Sh. Vidya Sagar, music teacher, performed on them and explained their usage. After this concert all children went to their respective classes.

In the afternoon, after the classes were over, a new exhibition has been inaugurated at the exhibition hall of the Urusvati Institute Building. Young local artist, Sudarshan Kumar, exhibited his paintings executed in water colors, oil on glass, and silver paper compositions. The main topic of his exhibition was beauty of his native state, Himachal Pradesh, its grand Himalayas and magnificent nature, folk, religious traditions and legends. Thus, one could see, for instance, his rendering of the ancient story of two lovers Soni and Bhonku, which has its roots in neighbouring hill region, Lahul and Bharmour. Main Gods of Hindu pantheon, Shiva, Parvati and Krishna were also depicted in his paintings.
