Artist V.Subra Mani with his paintings |
On 22 April, an exhibition of Sh. V.Subra Mani from Mysore, Karnataka has been inaugurated at the Modern Art Exhibition Hall as a part of the whole day function dedicated to the celebration of the 60th anniversary of Russian-Indian diplomatic relations.
V.Subra Mani exhibited natural wood inlay paintings.
Though lacking any formal education, he is verily a master whose works got wide appreciation. As V.Subra Mani narrated himself, he learnt this art from his father at the very childhood, first assisting his father, and later becoming a full-pledged artist by his own.
He uses no colors at all, only different kinds of wood which he cuts with a thin saw and applies on a wooden background, later polishing the work and framing.
Images of Hindu deities, scenes from the Bhagavadgita, different animals, and fantastic scenes from rural village life – these are his main topics.
All guests and students of the Art College who were present at the inauguration, were spellbound to see this technique. For the Art College students from carving department the exhibition was of particular interest. The artist has demonstrated to the guests his technique, and agreed to conduct a master class for the College students next week.
Many guests left the exhibition with purchased paintings of V.Subra Mani – it only proves the success of this indigenous artist.
