"ROSTOV – THE SOUL OF RUSSIA", EXHIBITION On Sunday, 29 th October, another interesting exhibition has been inaugurated at the IRMT Modern Art Exhibition Hall. “Rostov – the Soul of Russia” is the title of the exhibition, which contains works of seven Russian Artists from different cities. The guests and students of Helena Roerich Art College had a good luck to observe the works of the new technique – enamel painting. Russian Artists described in details the whole process of preparing the enamel-painting work. Besides the works of the artists, fantastic photos were displayed on Rostov City. Rostov the Great is one of the most ancient Russian cities that dates back to 862 AD. It used to be one of the strongholds of Slavic colonization, feudalism and Christianization of the north-eastern regions of Kiev Russia during the period of the early feudal Russian state. Historically, Rostov was a center for stone construction, chronicle keeping, as well as for writing and copying manuscripts and books. Contemporary Rostov is a city-museum that contains sacred treasures of traditional Russian culture. Particularity of Rostov's architectural and artistic appearance is defined by the ensembles of the Rostov Kremlin, Spaso-Yakovlevsky and Avraamiev monasteries. In Rostov, among the landmarks of civil architecture, remain samples of other architectural styles that existed in Russia between XVIII and the beginning of the XX century. In the end of the XIX and the beginning of the XX century a great number of wooden houses decorated with carved designs were built. Their decorations reflect the vast layers of tastes in Rostov's urban Society.
Selishcheva Natalya and Mikhail Selishchev – mother and son are the main organizers of the project of this exhibition. Natalya Selishcheva is the manager of Creative union “Khors” based in Rostov city. Mikhail Selishchev, an artist, originally from Moscow , now settled in Rostov where he organized “Khors” House of Art, a place connecting artists and amateurs. He works in engineering of enamel for over 10 years. His works are usually large enamel panels combined with wood, intended for interiors, as well as small pieces that sparkle with enamel brilliance.
The first half of this exhibition was inaugurated in Delhi , in Russian Centre of Science and Culture on 27 th October. From Delhi, artists came to Naggar to exhibit second half of their works. In the words of Mikhail Selishchev: “I conceived the exhibition “Rostov – the Soul of Russia” a year ago, especially for the viewers of India. Through unification of photographs and creative works of artists from different towns in Russia, we would like to acquaint the viewer in the most complete and interesting way with the history and culture of Rostov the Great, one of the most unique and beautiful towns of Russia. The heart of Rostov lays in its National Museum-Reserve “The Rostov Kremlin”. The eternal aspiration of the Russian soul towards eminence as well as quests for perfection, beauty and harmony are expressed through the multiple domes and the magnificence of the buildings of this architectural ensemble. The theme of the exhibition united artists of various styles and generations that work in many different mediums: painting, enamel, and miniature-enamel “Finit”. The viewer can observe traditional Russian painting as well as experimentation of modern art. With all the diversity in ways of exploration and materials, the authors are united by high professionalism and an open perception of new foreign cultures. Love for their native land and passion for travels form the foundation of the exhibition “Rostov – the Soul of Russia”, and we hope that it will greatly interest the viewers from India”.
