70TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE ROERICH PACT
AND THE BANNER OF PEACE, 15 April 2005

IRMT celebrated the 70 th Anniversary of the Roerich Pact and Banner of Peace. International function at the IRMT was attended by H.E. Ambassador of Mongolia, Mr Jantsan Gulgou; Minister Counselor of the Russian Federation, Mr. Andrei Sorokin; Deputy Director of the Russian Cultural Centre, Delhi, Mr Sergei Cherkas; Director of the Latvian Roerich Society, Mme M.Ozolinia and members of the Latvian Roerich Society, and other guests from Russia, Japan, etc.

After greeting of main guests, celebration started with solemn raising of the Banner of Peace. Students of the Art College together with their Principal performed Shanti Puja in front of ancient statues of Guga Chohan and Rani Raj Mata. Then guests visited Samadhi of Nicholas Roerich to pay their tributes to the great painter.

‘70 th Anniversary of the Roerich Pact and Banner of Peace’ – photo exhibition brought from the International Centre of the Roerichs, Moscow, Russia, was inaugurated by H.E. Ambassador of Mongolia, Mr Jantsan Gulgou and Minister Counsellor, Russian Embassy, Mr A.Sorokin.

Whole history of the Roerich Pact and Banner of Peace has been depicted in unique photographs from the archives of the International Centre of the Roerichs, Moscow . Deputy Director of the Russian Cultural Centre, Delhi , Mr Sergei Cherkas had a video presentation on the history of the Roerich Pact and its relevance for contemporary world.
Later on, another exhibition was inaugurated - ‘The Sound of Silence’ - photo exhibition by Rahul Sud from Kullu, Himachal Pradesh.

H.E. Ambassador of Mongolia visited also the Urusvati Research Institute building, where he inaugurated painting exhibition by the students of Helena Roerich Art College.
Then the cultural program started, prepared by the Art College students, at the stage of the new Theatre. Indian classical music, kathak dance and traditional Kullu folk songs were presented by children to the guests and Naggar people who came to attend the celebration.

At the end of the function, Curator of the IRMT presented to children gift from the Lithuanian Roerich Society – Yamaha electronic keyboard.
