JAGTIPAT,
OR DEV-SANSAT – ASSEMBLY OF GODS,
16 February 2006
Today, on 16th February, historical meeting of all Kullu valley Deities took place in Jagtipat Temple at Naggar Castle. Last time such assembly happened almost half a century ago, when all Gods were called to come together and solve the problem of a persistent draught. They came, and soon after that it rained continuously for 3-4 days…
Such is the power of Kullu Gods, believe people.
What is the reason, that the Gods were called again?
Here is the issue – the project of setting up a huge ski village project in the mountains approximately 3 km from Manali, by great grandson of famous Sir Henry Ford. Though the Himachal Pradesh State government Cabinet approved the Preliminary Project Report, not all people in the valley support this project, which might change the entire skyline of Kullu valley.
The Jagtipat Temple in historical Naggar Castle is considered to be the main place of all 365 deities of Kullu valley. That is why, all major problems are being solved at this temple. If required, even all Gods are being called to come together for discussing some important issue.
Thus today all Gods came together to discuss – whether there should be a ski village in the mountains, or not. There was hardly a place for a needle to fall – so many people came to observe this important assembly. Besides all main Indian TV channels, there were also teams from CNN, Star and Z TV channels, which conducted life broadcast from the temple. Approximately 100 media people were present at Nagagr today.
Prior to the assembly, animal sacrifice was carried on and offered to Narsingh Deity at his temple situated opposite the Castle.
When all Gurs (priests, or representatives of the Gods) assembled, the main Kardar of the Jagti temple (kardar, means – caretaker of the Deity, and Kardar of Jagtipath is considered to be the main Kardar of all 365 Gods of the valley) approached Gur of Jamla Deity (the main deity) and asked him about his opinion in the matter discussed. After that, the Kardar was approaching all assembled Gurs, and asked their Deities the same thing. Gurs, when asked, started to fall into trans, and it was in this condition, that the Deity was answering to Kardar through them.
Gurs were unanimous in their answers – it was ‘no’ to the ski village.
Kullu Gods said, there should not be any politics here in the valley, but only ‘devniti’ – the Law of Devtas (deities). They pronounced their statements quite strongly:
“ If you proceed with this project, then – the mountains will clash with each other, and the rain of fire will descend on the valley…and we – Devtas, will not be further responsible for people’s destiny…”
They said – whenever there was any problem, they were coming to save the people, and they are here to help them, but if people choose to go against their counsel, they will repent in the future… “Please – be together” – pleaded the Gods to the people.
Also they said, that the place where the proposed ski village is to be constructed – from Chandarkhani pass to Rohtang pass, is a sacred land, land of Saptarishi, of Gods.
“We don’t want to spoil our pure, heavenly place”.
When all Gurs pronounced their opinion, there was a short discussion between all of them, and then the main Gur of Jamla Deity again entered to trans, and his words became final – “We will not give the place…”
Then, Kardar of Jagtipat Temple solemnly announced this decision of Kullu Devtas to all people who assembled here.
And thus the historical meeting was over.
What will be the next – we shall see in the near future!
